Week 6 - A little accident

So at the doctor last Friday, I had a little spill... fell and felt my achilles pop. OUCH! Yeah I was shaking and crying. They told me at the last minute that this was a weigh bearing X-ray and I had to climb up on a box that was about knee high. Yeah, hard to do when you don't have 2 feet to work with! So now I'm being told to try and walk on my foot in the house....but its hard to do I tell you. That boot is heavy and I find myself not wanting to put any weight on it at all. Here goes another 6 weeks of trembling around.

1 month and still a cripple.....

So today is 1 month. My foot is still purple and red, no weight-bearing allowed. I'm beyond tired now, this is really getting to be a painful way of life. I'm always doped up, I'm cramping and tired. I love my scooter but it hurts the rest of my body to push it around. The husband is asking me to cook again and its so hard sometimes. I like that I have some independence but its still not where I want to be. Since I can't really see the finish line right now, its hard to be happy bout doing this surgery. I almost wish I would have waited or not even done it..... *sigh*

Just me and my boot

So I am trying the boot on again and yeah....still hate it. I was reading online how long people say they are taking to get over these types of surgeries and I guess I am just at the beginning. I can't stand at all...being vertical isn't easy at all, even with the scooter.  The increased blood flow actually hurts and ends up causing cramping after I finally sit down. Who know how bad foot surgery actually is and how much you really use your feet.  I vow once I have two working feet again I will be more active than I was. No excuse folks.

2 weeks later.....

So yesterday I had my second splint removed as well as the stitches and....it feels like I'm back to square one. I have pain in every movement, every bump or even the attempt to move this foot. The swelling is...like WHOA and my foot has never been so purple. I am missing my splint so much right now. At least it protected me from this kinda pain. And the boot??? I HATE it. Its clunky and big and painful when its on my foot. Forces me to stay at 90 degrees which my very swollen foot does not like. Back to the pain med. regiment that I thought I would be over by now. Now I know what the other folks who've had this surgery are talking about. Gonna be a while to recover.

So why did I agree to have this surgery?

Lets start at the beginning. United States Army training in 2000, I remember having incidents where I fell and never quite had the chance to recover. So as I continued to live a normal life, it became more apparent that this injury wasn't going anywhere. Fast forward 12 years and now we have surgery eminent.
